As the name suggests, The Old Smithy Tearooms are housed within the former village blacksmiths, a building full of character and over 250 years old. The Cafe is located in the very centre of the picturesque Peak District village of Monyash right at the head of the beautiful Lathkill Dale nature reserve.
Opened on Good Friday 1992, The Old Smithy is a well established, family run business hugely popular with locals and visitors alike. We cater for everyone, offering a range of hot and cold snacks right through to full meals including the famous “Smithy’s Breakfast” We also offer a selection of homemade cakes and delicious, locally made, award winning ice creams. We serve a selection of speciality teas and freshly ground coffee, served by the cup, mug, pot or even PINT – perfect for the thirsty walker or cold cyclist!!
Our opening times vary slightly depending on the time of the year but generally Monday to friday we are open from 10am til 5pm and weekends 9am til 5pm. We will always open earlier or stay open later if you let us know you are coming, please just get in touch. In winter months opening hours are generally the same but we will close a little earlier depending on how busy we are, again just let us know you are coming and we will stay open for you!!
The Old Smithy is proud to be a member of the Peak Cuisine foods scheme, specialising in using locally sourced produce, which guarantees quality, freshness and value.
We are fully licensed and offer a selection of beers and wines including premium draught Heineken and hand pulled real ale from the local Peak Ales brewery, based on the Chatsworth estate.
Here at The Old Smithy we truly do cater for everyone, whether you are a small family wanting afternoon teas and cakes, a hungry walker needing a full meal, a worn out cyclist needing refreshment or simply just a group of friends wanting coffee and a chat, The Old Smithy welcomes you all. The Cafe can also be booked out by prior arrangement to cater for birthdays, reunions, coach parties and get-togethers whether it is daytime or evening.
